The Great Toy Expedition: A Spring Auction
Lot 238:
Description
A wonderful early wooden toy, circa 1903, the Schoenhut Dancing Dutch Boy and Girl Jolly Jiggers dolls dance and frolic while tapping out a jig. The position of the dancers can be changed to a center placement, and they may also dance individually by locking a small tin piece on the handle. The figures themselves, approximately 12" H, are dressed in traditional Dutch garb, and their papier mache heads were also used on Schoenhut’s line of Roly Polys. The paddles produce the “jig” or dance for children’s amusement. The clothing appears original. This is a large toy when seen in person. It measures approximately 12" W x 20" D x 16" H.
