Description
This is a rare antique French ca. 1880s mechanical Arab horseman on horseback. The horse is hide-covered paper mache with glass eyes, a white mohair mane, leather reins, and a windup mechanism on its belly; the right ear is missing. The rider has a bisque head with a darkened complexion and inset glass eyes, and he wears a red woolen cape, tan coat, linen pants, and a fitted turban. We have tested it and found it to be working. When wound with its dedicated key, the horse rises and moves up and down in a galloping motion as the rider moves with it. It measures approximately 8" L x 9.5" H.
