Incredibly rare ca. 1914 Bing Autoplan air-powered airplane toy manufactured in Germany by the Bing Brothers Toy Company. This remarkable “free flight” model is powered by a compressed-air motor and features silk-covered wings over a delicate wire framework, with the compressed-air tank forming the fuselage. The body appears to be made of alloy material consistent with an aluminum derivative, and the outer covering is likely original, presenting as an extremely fine and delicate silk-like material.

The two-piston reciprocating engine operates on compressed air, and the cylinders pump and rotate properly. A valve stem is present on the body to pressurize the system; however, we did not attempt to charge it for fear of damaging the seals due to age. The delicate wheels and landing gear structure remain intact and appear original.

This outstanding survivor represents one of the finest early aviation toys produced. The wingspan measures approximately 48" W, and the fuselage measures approximately 46.5" L. Wire rear landing gear loose on one side. Pistons rotate freely and pull throttle wire operates valve; throttle loop still present at aft with wire. Only a few known examples of this toy have survived; by far this is the finest example known.
