These pieces are tin lithographed “Merry Builders Automatic Sand Toy” that were manufactured by Cowan de Groot/Codeg Productions of London, England. This company was most famous for being one of the first companies to procure licenses for the Doctor Who series in 1965 and for producing a line of Dalek Robot toys that became fan favorites.
This scarce British piece is comprised of a tall brick building and 3 builders on different levels with plastic hoods on their backs. When sand is poured into a hopper at the top sand filters down pouring from one builder to the next until it empties into the trough below. Only one comes with a trough and a box. The other is loose. These are approximately 16” L x 6 ¼” W.
