Very deluxe and unusual 4-4-2 hillclimber train from Dayton, Ohio, cataloged as Dayton No. 500 but featuring D.P. Clark design elements. The toy carries a 1909 patent date from the reorganization period. It boasts early, extensive hand-painted detailing, spoked cast wheels, and gold-painted highlights with flourishes. The flywheel is near-new with minimal wear and works well. A rare and remarkably clean 110-year-old steel toy, measuring approximately 24" long.
