Rare clockwork-driven passenger or riverboat, number 1072, by Märklin, Germany. Documented in the 1904 Märklin Catalog E on page 95, this new-to-market passenger boat showcases outstanding original paintwork, labeled as a "High Class Metal Toy." The ship is more original than the Claus riverboat sold in 2012, with stronger details such as window curtains and pinstriping. The "ST. PAUL" is a deluxe two-stack variation with simulated wood decking and original gold railing. Exceptional hand-painted window and porthole accents enhance its elegance. The removable bridge reveals wooden bench seating and passengers. The toy functions with a clockwork mechanism and comes with two original lifeboats. Minor abrasions are present on the hull and stand. The masts are original, with the front pennant flag showing a repaired tear, while the aft US flag appears original. Composition figures are likely replacements. No restoration has been detected. Purchased from its elderly owners, the "ST. PAUL" was kept under glass in its original condition, offering a remarkable and one-of-a-kind find. It measures approximately 26.8" (68 cm) long by 17" tall, significantly larger than similar models. A true beauty in original and excellent condition.
