Description
This is a J. & E. Stevens Co. cast iron No. 230 Tammany Bank mechanical bank, also known as the “Little Fat Man, ” depicts Boss William Macy Tweed, the notorious New York political figure of the 1860s–70s. This original bank features a working mechanism where a coin is placed in the man’s hand and deposited into the bank, with the figure nodding in response. "Tammany Bank" is cast into both sides. It is painted red and cream on the armchair, with Tweed in dark grey-brown pants, a navy jacket, and a yellow shirt. The trap is present and function tested. It measures approximately 2.75" W by 5.75" H.
