Description
This is a lot of 5 antique cast iron can openers and 3 vintage nutcrackers. The earliest can openers appeared in the 1850s and were heavy and cumbersome, often made of cast iron. Among the examples in this lot are openers decorated with a bull’s head and tail, which were handed out with cans of beef. The opener without horns was distributed with Bully Beef canned corned beef. A sardine-shaped opener was specifically designed for opening sardine cans. The nutcrackers include a brass rooster-shaped set, a brass eagle-shaped set, and a set designed as lady legs. All of these items measure between 4.75" L and 6.5" L.
