Description
Iconic Gunthermann Tin Windup Carousel with Goats and Riders. Simon Gunthermann established his business in 1871 in Nurnberg, and this is a quintessential design, with a similar toy documented in The Lexicon of German Tin Toy Makers. Three goats are ridden by people and flanked by six gondolas with riders. Yellow, green, tan, white, gold, green, pink, and red hand painting abounds. The toy works well with a plink-plink music box action. An additional finial was added to the top by its previous owner and can be removed. One goat has been reattached; otherwise, the condition is very good. The toy was made circa 1900, measuring approximately 8.5 inches in diameter by 12 inches in height.
