David Woodward Estate Tin Toy Collection
Lot 91:
Description
This is a set of four Japanese celluloid windups. The first is a Sakai SS pre-war Charlie McCarthy windup toy, missing the celluloid cane in his left hand but with no cracks, chips, or dents; it has been tested and works, the mouth opens and closes, and he features the famous McCarthy monocle on his right eye. Marked "SS Made in Japan" on the back with very little wear, it measures approximately 7.0" H. The other three are various sizes of Occupied Japan windup Dancing Couples—one from Masudaya comes with its box, two come with keys. The far-left figure has a dent in the man’s head; otherwise, all show no cracks, dents, or chips. All have been tested and work, with the largest measuring approximately 4.5" H and the smallest approximately 3.75" H.
