The Great Toy Expedition: A Spring Auction
Lot 452:
Description
J. & E. Stevens No. 331 “William Tell” mechanical bank. The bank operates by placing a coin on the barrel of William’s rifle and pressing his right foot. When the foot is depressed, the rifle shoots the apple from the boy Walter Tell’s head. As the coin enters the castle, it strikes a bell, and according to the catalog, a cap may be fired at the same time. This example has been tested; the mechanism is somewhat sticky but does work. The boy is missing the apple on his head. The original trap door is included. It measures approximately 10.5" L x 3.75" W x 6.75" H.
