The James Gillespie Estate Soldiers & Cast Iron Toys Auction
Five Lineol Italian military figures include two walking infantrymen and three mounted cavalry band members. The walking figures consist of a standard bearer carrying a drawn sword and a separate metal pole supporting a removable lithographed sheet-metal Italian tricolor flag, along with a combat foot soldier marching with a rifle held forward. The three mounted figures represent band members on horseback. The drums are removable, and the metal flag can be removed from its pole. Two horses have cracks in the bases, and the flag bearer’s arm has been repaired. Normal light wear from age and handling is present. The horses measure approximately 8.75 cm L.
