The James Gillespie Estate Soldiers & Cast Iron Toys Auction
A desert transport grouping includes one Gonio vehicle, one unmarked vehicle, del Prado figures, and additional Afrika Korps personnel. The centerpiece is a 1:24 scale die-cast metal Gonio Volkswagen Type 166 Schwimmwagen amphibious vehicle fitted with a mounted spare tire, front bumper guard, rear-mounted folding propeller mechanism, shovel, and oar. It is paired with an unmarked 1:24 scale die-cast Volkswagen Type 82 Kubelwagen light utility command car bearing "WH-1276893" license decals, a rear folded canopy, an interior floor-mounted machine gun, and a side-mounted shovel accessory. Eight seated composition soldiers populate the vehicles, wearing a mix of standard tan tropical uniforms and distinctive three-color splinter camouflage uniforms. Two separate del Prado lead figures complete the tactical group, including an Afrika Korps machine gunner in tropical dress armed with an MG-34 and an Afrika Korps warrant officer holding an MP-40 submachine gun.
