The James Gillespie Estate Soldiers & Cast Iron Toys Auction
Two scarce pre-war takedown-style lithographed tinplate airplane models manufactured by Lehmann are offered together. Included is a Heinkel He 111 twin-engine medium bomber, model No. 831, measuring approximately 7" wingspan and finished in a brown and green camouflage pattern with civil registration "D-AHAO" on the wings and fuselage. The bomber retains an original propeller held in place by a repair pin. Also included is a single-engine Heinkel He 70 Blitz aircraft, model No. 819, measuring approximately 5.5" wingspan and finished in a splinter camouflage scheme with Balkan cross insignia on the wings. The lot is accompanied by an original No. 817 illustrated retail box bottom and lid insert piece in fair condition, a separate loose tin under-fuselage piece, an original technical instruction schematic sheet for the "Schnellflugzeug Heinkel-Blitz He 70," and a multi-page promotional booklet titled "Der flugbegeisterten Jugend" detailing patent Lehmann toys.
