Lot 48:
Description
18th century British Sea Service flintlock pistol, .68 bore diameter. The action functions with two clicks and proper trigger release, and the cock holds in the half-cock safety position. The flint is intact. The barrel is marked with a Crown over V proof (used by the London Gunmakers’ Company from 1670–1813), along with “8G” and a Crown over X stamp. The right side of the lock bears a large Crown over GR (Georgius Rex), indicating manufacture during the reign of King George III or IV. A “TC” stamp is present on the left side above the trigger. The top of the butt appears marked “CAS” over “D, ” along with a faint “B” and broad arrow over “O.” The lock plate screw shows proper inner head radius and assembler mark “I I.” The wood stock is very old with deep dark varnish, wear, and distress consistent with age.
