The Summer Discovery Toy Auction
This is a vintage two-piece matching commercial production set with the hand-painted animation cel and the matching animator’s production drawing of Snagglepuss dressed as a director. The paint shows some loss to the fine black lines. The black outlines are on the front of the acetate sheet and are slightly raised, while the color paint is on the back of the sheet and is thick, matte, and uneven. Each layer has its sequencing and layer codes. The top layer is stamped "5521 0001" in black ink and is hand marked "/3" and "B31." The matching animator’s production drawing is also stamped in black ink "5521 0001" and marked "/3" and "B31," along with blue sequencing notes down the right side. The cel is not adhered to the production drawing, and the two pieces separate normally. The production code stamped on the set suggests it may have been created for commercial applications such as Orange Julius or MetLife Insurance commercials from the late 1980s to early 1990s. Both measure approximately 12.5" L x 10.5" H.
