The James Gillespie Estate Soldiers & Cast Iron Toys Auction
An expansive assortment of 20th-century historical printed ephemera, propaganda art, and vintage publication material is highlighted by an original double-sided classroom instruction poster measuring approximately 28" W x 18.25" H, depicting the Weimar hyperinflation crisis on one side and an early NSDAP political rally on the reverse. The Third Reich era historical prints include a Conrad Hommel print titled "Der Fuhrer im Kampfgelande" measuring approximately 19.75" W x 15.75" H and a Hans Schmitz-Wiedenbruck "Arbeiter, Bauern und Soldaten" print measuring approximately 14.5" W x 12.75" H, both showing handling folds and edge tears. Also included is a Raphael Tuck & Sons uncut Luftwaffe paper uniform sheets poster measuring approximately 16.25" W x 13.25" H, an anti-Axis satirical "Jumping Jack" puppet cutout sheet measuring approximately 17.75" W x 12.5" H and caricaturing Nazi leadership, a box cover label print for the siege board game "Auf zum Sturm" measuring approximately 13.25" W x 9.5" H, and an O. & M. Hausser "Kinder-Post" promotional display sign measuring approximately 14.75" W x 10" H. The remainder of the collection includes two vintage issues of LIFE magazine dated March 28, 1938 and November 25, 1940, a large-format vintage gelatin silver photograph measuring approximately 16" W x 19.75" H documenting a 1958 U.S. Army 1st Cavalry Division military marching band parade deployment in South Korea, a factory-sealed vintage reproduction movie poster for "Hollywood Hotel" measuring approximately 22" W x 28" H, and a pair of large-format promotional advertising posters for the 5th International Clarinet Festival in Krakow, Poland, dated 1997 and measuring approximately 39" W x 25" H.
