Description
A wonderful antique ca. 1890 clockwork pig rider "Paddy Pig" toy, believed to be French, though it has also been attributed to Germany. The pig is realistically molded in paper mache over a wire frame, showing wrinkles around the shoulders, neck, and snout. The rider has a bisque head with wooden and composition body. The clockwork mechanism works; we tested it and found it to be working for us. The action is similar to a hopper toy, with the pig hopping up and down as if trying to buck the young man from his back. It measures approximately 8.5" L x 8" H.
