Description
Silver-mounted sgian-dubh by Thomas Ebbutt, Edinburgh, 1952. The knife features an 8.3 cm blade with a single fuller and faceted back edge. The horn hilt is decorated with a basket-weave pattern, and the pommel is set with a cut-glass stone. It is housed in a leather-mounted scabbard. This sgian-dubh is a traditional small, single-edged knife worn as part of Scottish Highland dress and was traditionally tucked into the top of the kilt hose (sock) on the right leg for right-handed individuals. The reverse of the scabbard is marked "Made in Scotland" with maker’s marks. It measures approximately 8" H.
