The James Gillespie Estate Soldiers & Cast Iron Toys Auction
A mixed three-piece Elastolin German Wehrmacht cavalry and Feldgendarmerie grouping combines an early composition mounted soldier with a later hobbyist-painted vignette. The composition cavalryman is mounted on a brown horse, holding the reins with a rifle slung over his back. Beside it is a modern resin or plastic military policeman vignette mounted on a rectangular wooden plinth, depicting a Feldgendarme in a long dark coat and gorget holding a traffic wand next to an Eastern Front directional sign reading "Nach Stalingrad." The horse has a crack underneath along with a couple of paint chips and measures approximately 12 cm L. The wooden base measures approximately 9.5 cm x 14.5 cm.
